I started at Hamilton College in 2001 in S2. I found the teachers very encouraging, helpful and always willing to make time for me. I have fond memories of my time at Hamilton College and I met some of my closest friends there.

Advanced Higher Geography

The Advanced Higher in Geography is designed to develop a greater maturity of outlook by providing the opportunity for independent study in depth.

 COURSE CONTENT

The course consists of three units:-

  • Geographical Methods and Techniques –  examination paper - 30% of final award.
  • Geographical study. This is a piece of work to cover a maximum of 25 A4 pages –    40% of final award.
  • Geographical Issues. An issue must be investigated and sources critically evaluated – 30% of final award.

 METHODOLOGY AND HOMEWORK

The pupil, in consultation with the teacher, must select from the content of the course, original pieces of work to complete on a thematic basis. This demands great maturity as the award is based upon a considerable amount of independent study. Integral to the course is a number of fieldwork excursions in the local area.  This takes place throughout the year in order to prepare the students to complete their own Geographical study.
