Hamilton College is now in its fortieth year and it gives me great pleasure to invite you to our first of many events to help us celebrate together as a community. Our Quiz Night, Art Exhibition and Auction on Friday 27 January will be the first time in many years that the school community gathers for a social event - which is long overdue! I know many of you interact in the school grounds before collecting your child and I hope you welcome this opportunity to socialise together in this relaxed environment.

Our event will commence at 6pm with an Art Exhibition. We are showcasing art from our learners as well as pieces specially commissioned for this event. This includes our Junior School who are collaboratively working on six pieces that represent the Hamilton College Values, Sophia (S1) who is creating a stunning visual and our S3 group who are designing a canvas that includes various elements of our school throughout our forty years. All of the artwork that is specifically created for this event will be available to purchase through our silent and live auction on the night.

I am also delighted to confirm that popular Edinburgh based painter Jason Cordingley has agreed to display some of his magnificent work as well as kindly donating items for the auction. Jason’s style of landscape painting is uniquely vibrant, giving a poetic insight into an audacious reality of extreme colours and textures. He has developed this approach over the past twenty years using multiple layers of oil paint thickeners and glazes. His work can be found here and I am sure his auction pieces will generate much excitement and bids on the night, especially his landscapes generated from well-known Glasgow scenery.

The night will continue with a quiz at 7pm hosted by Mr Michael Cunningham, Head of Business and Technologies and resident Quizmaster. Michael’s lunchtime staff quizzes are most excellent, and we are delighted he will be able to recreate this to a larger audience. Michael’s quiz is sure to be fun, engaging and at times challenging. The winning team will take home the inaugural trophy and prizes.

Tickets for this event cost £12.50 per person and include a fabulous supper. Specific dietary requirements will be catered for. Tickets can be purchased online at www.hamiltoncollege.co.uk/shop and must be bought in teams consisting of a minimum of four, maximum eight. All money goes towards our 40th Anniversary School Improvement Fund. This event is for adults only, however, we will welcome those in S4-S6 who wish to take a well-deserved break from their prelims.

This is the start of a very exciting year. We hope you can show your support by joining us for this and the many other planned events in 2023.

Yours sincerely

Richard A Charman
