Upper School Covid

Dear Parents

Following the Government announcement on Monday, we have the following update on arrangements for January and beyond.

S1 & S2

S1 and S2 pupils should continue to check their subject Teams for Assignments and posts for details of work to be covered at home. Submitted work will be reviewed by teachers and feedback given. Some staff may add online live sessions and pupils will be expected to attend these when set.

S3

As well as completing work set through teams, S3 are expected to attend the online live sessions with teaching staff as of 11 January.  This is to ensure that they are coping with their courses and teachers can help them with any issues that they are having.  If you are unable to make this session for whatever reason, please contact the class teacher.

S4- S6

Prelims for S4 to S6 will not go ahead in the format previously intimated.  Instead, teachers will be working with your son/daughter to cover course content for the month of January.  It is therefore important that pupils are online and engaged with this learning. Assessment evidence for SQA will then be collected in class times across the period of 15 Feb to 1 April.  As part of this collation, pupils will sit prelim papers during this period; however, these will be split into shorter papers that fit scheduled class times.  We will spread these out across this timeframe where possible.  Where logistics allow, we will use the hall for some of these assessments to give the pupils the experience of sitting exams in an examination hall.

Departments are well ahead of schedule due to the additional learning we had online in May/June last session, so most courses are almost completed.  This should mean that students are well prepared for the proposed assessments in late February through April, that we will use to gather SQA evidence.  Revision will be done with teachers both online and in class time to allow pupils to feel prepared for these assessments.  No evidence at this stage can be completed at home and used for SQA purposes.

The second exam diet planned for May, at this stage, will go ahead to collect final pieces of evidence and to give pupils the experience of examinations in the hall.

Reporting

Reports will go ahead as planned.  Dates for these are on the Parent School App.

Attendance

We are delighted to see 95% attendance this morning online with pupils engaging with work.

The school will continue to get updates from the education authorities as time progresses and we will keep you informed as and when we can with any new information.

Thank you for all your support at this time.

If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact the relevant Head of Department, Pastoral Staff or a member of SLT.

Kind regards

The Senior Leadership Team
