Good evening
It was my absolute pleasure last month to accept the role as Chair of the Board of Governors for Hamilton College. This school is very dear to my heart and I am looking forward to working closely with all of the Hamilton College Family as we continue to drive forward in achieving the vision and purpose of the school.
The school has been through an extraordinary time in the last 14 months and despite the challenges, has flourished. I would like to acknowledge the incredible team effort to get us to this point especially the dedication of our SLT Team, CEO Mrs Katie Morton, Interim Head of Education Mrs Heather Stark, Head of Middle School Mr Stuart Ross and Head of Junior School & Nursery Mrs Jenny Paterson.
To continue this growth, the Board of Governors undertook a recruitment campaign for a Headteacher to support, guide and enhance the teaching and learning at Hamilton College. After a rigorous selection process, I am delighted to confirm that Mr Richard Charman has accepted the role as Headteacher. Richard will commence his role from 1 July 2021. Richard will lead the SLT Team and report to the Board of Governors.
Richard brings a wealth of experience. Upon completing his Post Graduate Certificate in Education, he taught Mathematics and Physical Education at Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Marlow before moving to Edinburgh in September 2000, when he started a twenty-year tenure at the prestigious Merchiston Castle School. Richard held the positions of Head of Department, Director of Sport and more latterly Deputy Head. His contribution to Merchiston included: the introduction of new academic subjects; the implementation of a new IT infrastructure and digital strategy; the launch of the leading tennis and golf academies as well as leading capital projects, fundraising and recruitment.
Richard will be writing to you shortly to introduce himself and outline his vision for the school.
This is a new, exciting chapter for Hamilton College and the Board and I are eager to begin working closely with Richard. I hope you will join me in welcoming Richard and ask that you please keep him in your prayers as he starts this role.
Kind regards
Mrs Penny Simpson OBE
Chair of the Board of Governors
